This is mainly due to the sale of its Columbia management business and other smaller branches. Bank of America Corporation (NYSE:BAC) is reducing the number of its branches to deal with the economic downturn. The bank now has 7,000 employees in Massachusetts whereas they employed 9,000 workers in 2007. Bank of America Corporation (NYSE:BAC) spokesman Joseph Goode said, "These are typical employment fluctuations, given the significance of the Merrill Lynch and Columbia transactions and the natural ebb and flow in a challenging economy".
