Notable Earnings from Services Sector Stocks (UPS, OMC, URI)

United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:UPS) added 0.34% to $69.83. This week, the company reported earnings of $991 million, or 99 cents a share, up from $549 million or 55 cents a share a year ago. Revenue rose 9% to $12.19 billion from $11.15 billion. Analysts polled by FactSet Research were looking for earnings of 88 cents a share, on average, with sales of $12.35 billion. The company also raised its 2010 profit outlook to a range of $3.48 a share to $3.54 a share, from its earlier view of $3.35 a share to $3.45 a share. Wall Street is looking for a full-year profit of $3.44 a share. The stock went up more than 20% year-to-date. Omnicom Group Inc. (NYSE:OMC) went up 0.42% to $43.23. Earlier this week, the company said that its third-quarter profit rose 5% to $174.6 million, or 57 cents a share, from $165.6 million, or 53 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue rose by 5.5% to $2.99 billion. Omnicom was expected to earn 58 cents a share, with revenue of $2.97 billion, according to a survey of analysts by FactSet Research. Over the past 52-week, the stock had traded within the range of $33.50-$44.08. At Friday`s closing market price, the market capitalization of the company stood at $13.03 billion. United Rentals, Inc. (NYSE:URI) gained 0.82% and closed at $18.47. This week, the company reported a third-quarter net profit of $23 million, or 33 cents a share. During the comparable period last year, United Rentals broke even. Analysts, on average, expected Greenwich, Connecticut-based United Rentals to report a profit of 25 cents a share on sales of $597.8 million, according to Thomson Reuters. Over the past 52-week, the stock had traded within the range of $6.87-$18.69. The stock made its new one-year high of $7.24, earlier this week.
