Mother’s day is fast approaching and sales of flowers across America is expected to be on the rise each and every day as we approach this Sunday. Leading the way are some of the giants of flower sales in America like ProFlowers.com and FTD.com. Sales of flowers for Mother’s day this year is expected to be improved over the sales that posted during 2010. The economy is on a path of recovery and more Americans are in position to be active consumers this year. The unemployment rate in America recently dropped to 8.8 percent and this means more people are in a better position to purchase Mother’s day gifts. Flowers are the number one Mother’s day gift in America and so companies like Proflowers and FTD have increased their inventory in preparation for sales this year. One aspect of the economy however that could be a deterrent to the overall sales figures relates to inflation potentials. The above average price of fuel and other commodities will apply negative pressure to producers and consumers this year which could push negatively on overall sales of gifts and flowers for this Mother’s Day. The last quarter was positive for the American economy and above average sales on this Mother’s Day will not only help individual retailers, but it will also help the economy take another step towards overall recovery. Online sales from retailers like Proflowers and FTD will go a long way to helping the economic recovery move forward in 2011. Author: Genny Germano
