Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) has been criticized for its failure to prevent 911 outages. Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) Condemned For Emergency Lapse The Maryland Public Service Commission has blamed Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) for its failure to notify emergency call centers in Montgomery and Prince George's counties when it experienced problems with 911 calls last year. The commission found that customers got busy signals when seeking emergency dispatchers. As Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) is the sole provider of 911 services in Maryland, about 8,300 customers in Montgomery and 1,700 customers in Prince George's could not reach the 911 centers. Sandra Arnette, Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) spokeswoman, said, "We will continue to work with the 911 centers and others to ensure that callers receive the level of service they deserve and expect when they dial 911".
