Merck announced last week that it entered into a definitive agreement to acquire SmartCells, which is developing a glucose responsive insulin formulation for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The Procter & Gamble Company ( NYSE: PG ) is a Cincinnati, Ohio-based consumer goods company. The company sells its products in over 180 countries. Procter & Gamble reported its first-quarter financial results in October. The company reported first-quarter diluted net earnings per share of $1.02, up 5% over the same period in the previous year. Shares of Procter & Gamble have a 52-week range of $39.37-$65. Year-to-date, the stock is up 3.5%. Abbott Laboratories ( NYSE: ABT ) is an Abbott Park, Illinois-based company, engaged in the discovery, development, manufacturing and sales of diversified line of healthcare products. Abbott shares have a 52-week range of $44.59-$56.79. Year-to-date, the stock is down 13.19%.
