In a strongly worded opinion released Friday, the judge in Manhattan elaborated on his reasons for allowing Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) to depose Steven Donziger, the U.S. plaintiff's attorney in the massive environmental tort litigation against Chevron (NYSE:CVX) in Ecuador. Earlier this fall, Chevron (NYSE:CVX) had moved to depose Donziger, claiming that the trial in Ecuador had been tainted by fraud by the plaintiffs; in an October 20 order, Kaplan allowed additional discovery from Donziger. In Friday’s opinion, Kaplan concluded that “the need is extremely great” to depose Donziger. Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT) Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT) will soon be manufacturing patrol boats for the Indian Coast Guard. Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT) Marine Power Systems(NYSE:CAT) will supply ICG with 72x Cat 3516C marine propulsion engines (2525 bkW @ 1800 RPM, 'D' Rating) and 72x C4.4 auxiliary generator sets (86 eKW @ 1500 RPM) to power 36 Interceptor Boats, which will be built by Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), Mumbai. The patrol boats will be constructed with an aluminum alloy hull and feature water jet propulsion. The engines and generator sets will be delivered over the course of three years, with the project scheduled to conclude in late 2013. IBM (NYSE:IBM) Energy companies will soon have IBM (NYSE:IBM) to thank for rescue from outages. IBM (NYSE:IBM) announce that is has developed a new technology to help energy companies manage their power outages, and is being used by Shanghai Power. The technology is able to upgrade and transform a power grid by reducing outage frequency and duration of black-out time.
