#NMDC hoping to activate Tanzanian gold operations

Indian state-run miner #NMDC has recently announced that they are hoping to
acquire a mining lease for a gold deposit in Tanzania, according to Chairman and
Managing Director Rana Som. NMDC will also have rights to explore other gold
deposits once their 50% acquisition of Australian Legacy Iron Ore is completed.
One of the countries they are actively considering is Afghanistan, along with
other members of an Indian consortium which includes #SAIL, #JSW Steel, #Jindal
Steel and Power and #Monnet Ispat and Energy. Securing upstream assets to lock
in supply is a major priority for Indian state-owned miners, and NMDCs Rana Som
and Shakeel Ahmed, Managing Director of Hindustan Copper will be speaking on
their overseas acquisition plans at Asia Mining Congress 2012. To find out more
