Americans are worried about paying the bills. President Obama talks about cutting the national deficit and some members of Congress suggest that restructuring programs like federal unemployment assistance and social security disability are viable ways to address concerns. The details of deficit reduction are still being ironed out in Congress at this point in time. The bad news is that the economy is slowing and more Americans are likely to need unemployment insurance. Historically, the holiday season provides temporary reprieve for some by providing many with the opportunity for short term employment.
