Stock Market Today Dow Jones Industrial Average Today, Nasdaq, S&P 500; Gold and Silver Today; Market News Overview

dow2664 Today is the first day of May but the major index composites in the United States ended the month of April in positive territory. All three; the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 finished the last open trading session of April in the green. The S&P 500 finished higher by .23 percent at 1363.61. The Nasdaq finished green by .04 percent at 2873.54. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished higher by .37 percent at 12810.54. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq finished off with exceptional numbers for the month which were higher than any other monthly finishes this year. Gold and silver surged higher as well and have been trending a positive line for quite a period of time. Gold holds a positive one month change increase of 9.12 percent. Silver holds a positive one month change increase of 227.07 increase. Overall, the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished higher for the month of April by 4 percent. This gain makes five months in a row that the Dow Jones has finished off in the green. The Nasdaq rose 3.3 percent last month and the S&P finished the last month higher by 2.8 percent overall. Stocks rose on strong earnings reports that posted last month and Wall Street will look once again to strong earnings reports to help push stocks higher through May. On the schedule for Monday will be the Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing report for April. The Commerce department will also post the construction spending figures data. Sales figures will post from the major auto makers and notable companies posting earnings data will be Humana and Chesapeake. Investors will be observing closely to determine if inflation begins to cause an economic pull back relevant to consumer spending and bottom lines as we move into May. The Dow Jones Industrial Average today is positioned to open with gains for the month of May.
