Dow Jones Industrial Average Market Close Review Open Overview; Nasdaq, S&P 500 Money Invest News; Stock Profits, Gold Price Close

The major stock market index composites closed the last session mixed. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished lower by 26.11 as it closed Monday’s session at 12,479.88. The Nasdaq moved higher by 5.72 points to close the last session at 2,825.88 and the S&P 500 closed the last session lower by 2.13 to close at 1,335.25. Gold price per ounce finished with a second consecutive close above 1500 per ounce. The stock rally that initiated last week stalled during the last session in the U.S. For today, the Case-Shiller 20 city home price index report is due to post. This report is expected to post decreased values in February which would extend the negative trends produced by this report over recent months. In addition to this report, the Conference Board will release the Consumer Confidence index for April. The Consumer Confidence report is expected to edge slightly higher in April over March. Some noteworthy earnings reports this day will post from Ford Motor, Coca-Cola, UPS, 3M and Amazon. Investors will be waiting for Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke’s, press conference report on Wednesday. The report will highlight the current state of the economy and progressive steps to be taken as we move forward. Major earnings reports posting this day will stem from Aflac, Boeing, BP, Whirlpool and Starbucks. Thursday will highlight the economy as data will post via The Commerce Department’s report on first quarter progress and economic growth. The weekly report on first time jobless claims will post this day as well. This number is expected to decrease over the mark that posted last week. Pending home sales data will stem from the National Association of Realtors and this data is expected to be an improvement over last month’s pending home sales figures. Notable earnings reports this day will post from Sprint Nextel, Microsoft, Exxon Mobil and Proctor and Gamble. For the last day of the trading week on Friday, data on personal income and spending will post as will the Chicago PMI reading for April and the consumer sentiment reading for April from the University of Michigan. Notable earning reports this day will post from Chevron, Goodyear Tire and Rubber and Caterpillar.
